PecFent
Area of application: PAIN
PecFent is a short-acting opioid analgesic in nasal form, used for the treatment of breakthrough pain. Currently, it is the medication with the fastest onset of action compared to other drugs used for the treatment of breakthrough pain. PecFent contains fentanyl in nasal form, utilizing the advanced PecSys system, which prevents drug leakage and ensures uniform absorption of the active substance.
Thanks to the PecSys system, PecFent is a modified-release drug that ensures stable drug concentration in the blood throughout the pain episode. The PecSys system, exclusive to PecFent, protects the patient from excessively high concentrations of the drug in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of severe side effects.
The medication is packaged in a system that facilitates administration: each dose is signaled by an audible “click.” Additionally, the dispenser has a window that indicates how many doses have already been used.
PecFent is available in packages containing either 100 μg or 400 μg of fentanyl per dose, in packs of 1 or 4 bottles.
PecFent is included in the list of reimbursable medications for the treatment of “breakthrough pain in adult and pediatric cancer patients undergoing chronic opioid therapy, who have contraindications or inefficacy with other short-acting opioids,” at a fixed cost*.
PecFent is also included in the list of free medications for elderly patients over 65 years of age and for children under 18 years of age.
