Ropimol

Area of application: ANESTHESIOLOGY

Ropimol is an anesthetic used for regional anesthesia, with ropivacaine as the active ingredient.

The wide range of available concentrations of the drug: 2 mg/ml, 5 mg/ml, 7.5 mg/ml, and 10 mg/ml, allows for the use of ropivacaine in epidural anesthesia in adults, sacral anesthesia in children, postoperative analgesia, infiltration, plexus and nerve trunk blocks, and spinal anesthesia.

An important aspect is the ability to use ropivacaine for epidural anesthesia during natural childbirth. Ropivacaine, classified by the FDA for pregnancy as Category B, is currently considered the safest option for both the mother and the baby. “Walking anesthesia” with ropivacaine enables faster mobilization of the patient after delivery.

Ropivacaine has lower neurotoxicity and cardiotoxicity compared to bupivacaine (as a result, resuscitation during cardiac arrest is easier with ropivacaine than with bupivacaine, and the shorter action potential duration compared to bupivacaine reduces the risk of arrhythmias; there is also a smaller reduction in ejection fraction compared to bupivacaine).
